Which Visa Do I Need?

There are many different types of visas to suit different purposes. Here are just a few of the most common options:

Which Visa

Transit Visa

New Zealand requires all transit passengers to hold a transit visa or NZeTA before entering.

China requires a tourist visa for transit if staying more than 48 hours, or 2 or more connecting flights in China.

Each country has its own rules!

Most countries don't require a transit visa if you are transiting through their country to the next.

But there are some exceptions...

Student Visa

Required for visitors to attend school in a foreign country.

Some student visas also permit the holder to work up to a limited number of hours per week.

Tourist Visa

Thailand grants most passport holders a free 30-day tourist visa on arrival. You may also pre-arrange a 60-day tourist visa for a fee.

Vietnam requires all tourists possess a tourist visa before entry. Visas may be 30-90 days with single or multi entry

The most common visa, used to enter a country for 1 or more nights for the purpose of travel.

Some are available upon entry, some are required prior...

Work Visa

Required for visitors to earn a paid income in a foreign country.

Some unpaid work (such as WWOOFing or volunteer work) may not require a work visa.

See Living & Working in Australia for an example of working overseas.

Female Student

Student Visa

Any international student is required to obtain a Student Visa in order to be able to study in that country. Many student visa's allow you to stay for several years, often depending on the length of your enrolled course.

It's not uncommon for student visa's to permit you to work while in school, such as in Australia and Canada, where students are permitted to work up to 20 hours per week while studying.

As always, it's important to check your visa guidelines to ensure you meet the limitations and boundaries.
