Travel vs Health Insurance:

What's the Difference?

It's important to carry the proper insurance for any trip, but which type of insurance do you need?

Sometimes you need both, sometimes just one.

Is Travel Insurance Enough?

Travel Insurance covers you for issues related to your trip: trip cancellation, lost luggage, and some medical emergencies- but this can be misleading.

In a serious medical emergency where it is cheaper and viable to buy you a flight ticket home, this may be all that you receive. Once you are returned to your home country, their liability ends, and your personal health coverage (if any) takes over.

If you do not have any health coverage at home, or if you are overseas for more than 6 months, you may need to also look at Health Insurance.

Travel Insurance Enough?

If You:

Travel Insurance

Travel Insurance should have you covered! Many health care providers allow you to be outside of your home country for up to 6 months in a year and still be covered.

If your trip extends past that 6 months, you may need to also look into Health Insurance (see below). It is important to check with your health care provider (if any) to see if you meet their requirements.

WorldNomads is the most recognized Travel Insurance company. They offer excellent service and coverage, and at a very affordable rate:

Health Insurance

You may need Health Insurance. Travel Insurance alone is often very limited without having any medical coverage in your home country.

Many health care providers don't allow you to be outside of your home country for more than 6 months in a year and still be covered. It is important to check with your health care provider (if any) to see if you meet their requirements. Some countries may also require you to transfer your driver's license if you are in a country for more than 6 months.

For those who are not covered, Cigna offers excellent Global Health Services. With a variety of options, benefits ranges and customization, it's easy to get you covered. Note that coverage in the United States is an add-on, and will increase the cost of your plan.

Travel Insurance

Even with the purchase of Health Insurance, Travel Insurance is still a good addition, in order to protect from trip cancellation, lost luggage, and other burdens. WorldNomads is the most recognized Travel Insurance company.
